No Nonsense Muscle Building is a
complete muscle mass program for men and women who are
seeking a more muscular fitness model type physique.
The Trainer
Vince Delmonte is natural
bodybuilder, fitness competitor and personal trainer. He
has an honors degree in Kinesiology from the University
of Western Ontario and transformation from a skinny

What Kind of Equipment Do I
Need?
No Nonsense Muscle Building does
not go too much into the type of equipment needed to do
the program. The assumption seems to to be that you will
have access to a fully equipped gym. If you will be
using a home gym, you will need access to:
- bench
- dumbbells
- free weights (long bar &
weights) or machines to do basic bodybuilding lifts
- fitness / resistance bands
- pull up bar
- stability ball

If you have a home gym machine
already, you will probably do fine with that as well.
Use what you have and don't purchase any more equipment
until you have exhausted the movements available to you.
How Many Days Do I Need to Work
Out?
Weight workouts are to be kept
under an hour. You can expect to do weights 3 times a
week for the beginner - intermediate program and 20 to
45 minutes of cardio at least twice a week except for
the extremely skinny. Delmonte recommends that an
extreme hardgainer wait a few weeks until they put on
about 15 pounds of muscle before they add any cardio to
the program.
The Program
This is not one an easy and simple
routine. In fact, on first read it will seem very
complicated. You will probably need to read the whole
book through at least twice before everything starts to
click.
In terms of the weight lifting
portion, you will be learning very advanced techniques
that while difficult to understand at first, will allow
you to add serious muscle to your frame without the use
of drugs or excessive supplementation. Expect to be
changing number of sets, repetitions and even the tempo
at which you lift. All of it is designed to maximize
your muscle gain and keep your body from adapting to the
workouts too soon.
The program includes access to a
member's area. This area includes a calendar that will
map out your workouts by the day and provide computer
animated demonstrations of the exercises you will be
performing. Consider the book the broad strokes and the
information in the members area the nuts and bolts
hand-holding that will bring it all together into a step
by step program you can actually use.
Besides weightlifting, the program
includes flexibility training and something he calls UDT
(upside down training), which is designed to correct
muscle imbalances and improve weak areas, so that you
don't end up sidelined by an injury in the middle of the
program.
Basic through advanced recovery
techniques are thoroughly covered in the program. If you
have tried other muscle building programs before and
have not made significant gains, it was probably due to
neglecting this most important of principles.
The diet portion is extensive. You
will need to be willing to change your nutrition habits
and eat a lot of clean food to gain muscle, and he
doesn't hide this fact. Sample meal plans are included
for different calorie level diets, and an online
calculator to make everything as simple as possible.
Supplements are optional, but he does present a large
section on the benefits of nutritious shakes and
detailed instructions on the correct times to use them
as well as how to make a variety of them.
A cutting program is also provided
to help you lean down after a muscle building phase or
if your body fat is very high.
Fat Loss Ability:

This
is not primarily a fat loss program. This program is
primarily aimed at skinny men and women who would like
to add quality muscle to their frame to attain the
coveted fitness model look. It does however include a
cutting program that could be used to lose fat before or
after a muscle building phase.

The book by itself deserves
only 1 star for ease of use. The information is advanced
and while Delmonte does an admirable job of explaining
complex scientific ideas an principles in a way regular
people can understand, it can still feel like a little
much for a total beginner. With the addition of the
member's area that breaks down the exact workouts by day
with animated exercise descriptions, the ease of use
rating easily goes up to 3 or four stars.
